Dear JMA member,
This short newsletter is just to let you know that we have now opened JMA membership for renewals for 2025. We’ve made this easy for you, and all you have to do is go to the website (https://jmajets.bmfa.uk) and click on the yellow ‘2025 membership opens soon’ button on the home page, to fill in your details and re-join.
As a bit of an incentive, all of those who re-join (and pay!) before close of play on the 15th December, will automatically be entered into a free prize draw, with a prize of two days free flying at a JMA event of your choice in 2025, so don’t delay, and get this done before the madness of Christmas takes over and you forget. We’ve already published our provisional event dates for 2025 (see the website) and events start fairly early in the year. As ever it’s a fairly full programme with access to some great venues for turbine flying, and membership is only £25.
On the subject of renewals, don’t forget that for 2025, all members are required to hold a valid BMFA Registration Competency Certificate (RCC). A significant proportion of our members already an RCC, but for those of you who don’t yet, the RCC is a knowledge-based competency, based on the BMFA Article 16 Authorisation that we all fly under. It’s a 40-question, multiple choice, online test, and we’ve added a link on our website to make it easy for you to access, so no excuses!
The test is really all just common sense, and you can’t really fail it as you can have multiple attempts until you pass, but if you do want to do a bit of preparation before you take the test, go to the BMFA website (https://bmfa.org) and click on ‘MORE’ in the header on the home page, then choose ‘Know the law’ and then the ‘Quick Start Guide to Regulations’. The good news is that the RCC is valid for 5 years, so you won’t have to do it again for a while. I’m sure you will notice, but as a bit of a tip, some questions in the RCC have only one correct answer, and others have more than one. For those with a single correct answer the answers are marked with a circle, and for those with multiple correct answers, the answers are marked with a square. Importantly, once you have passed the test, you must add the Certificate to your membership profile, or no one will know you’ve done it – including us! When you have completed the test, click on ‘Download Certificate’ first, and then save it somewhere on whatever device you are using, then click on the ‘how to’ guide that tells you how to add it to your profile. You will need to remember where you saved it! The ‘how to’ guide also appears in blue on the same page as ‘Download Certificate’, so just click on it and follow the instructions. If you do still have any problems, please just let us know and we will do our best to get you sorted. If it’s any help, I found it easier to do on my laptop than on my iPad.
I’ll sign off now, but before I close, I’d just like to finish with a big ‘thank you’ to all those who helped with organising and running the Maverick Ball which took place last night, with extra special thanks to Louise Embling and Jan McClure. I have to say that this was the best year yet, and I didn’t speak to anyone who didn’t think it was anything other than superb. The raffle generated over £2,000 for the Thames Valley air Ambulance, and I’m sure you will see some pictures of the fun and festivities posted on social media.
In closing, I’d just like to wish you all a Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2025,
from your JMA Committee.
